How to collect and return a rental car

Prepare for rental car pickup: location, documents, inspection and return. Confirm the specific supplier contact and requirements.

Updated

Before pickup

Confirm the address, time, operator contact, original documents, driver requirements and deposit method. For delivery, agree the fee and meeting point.

Report and photos

Inspect the body, interior, glass, tyres, equipment, fuel and mileage together. Record damage, take photos and keep a copy. Repeat the inspection at return and obtain a receipt or return confirmation.

A problem during your rental

Do not continue driving if unsafe. Use the operator contact in your confirmed booking for vehicle assistance. CarMisto assists with requests and communication; this page does not promise round-the-clock recovery or immediate replacement.

Your pre-trip checklist

Keep the confirmation, exact address and representative contact. Ask for the actual document checklist: age, experience and card requirements depend on the offer. Agree return time, fuel or charge level and how to report a delay. If photos illustrate the model, clarify the confirmed vehicle or class before meeting. At handover, compare agreed equipment with the vehicle and paperwork.

How to collect and return a rental car

Before collection, confirm the address, time and operator contact. Allow time for paperwork and inspection. A delayed train or changed arrival time needs a separate agreement.

Inspect the body, glass, wheels and cabin together. Record existing damage, mileage and fuel or charge, then check keys, documents and agreed equipment.

Compare the rental conditions

Before return, confirm the location and required fuel or charge level. Ask for acknowledgment of collection and the deposit-return process. Your onward schedule should include inspection time, not just the drive to the return point.
